ONLY one school in Hertfordshire has opened today, according to Herts County Council's records.
St Margaret Clitherow Roman Catholic School in Stevenage is the only school in the county known to have braved the weather and opened its gates.
Thirty-nine pupils have attended, but the school is set to close at 1.30pm due to the weather forecast.
Stevenage Borough Council (SBC) has said that due to the continuing severe weather conditions there will be no refuse collections today, and North Herts District Council has also suspended its waste and recycling service until the weather improves sufficiently to make conditions safe again.

Stevenage Museum is closed, and the meeting of SBC's Chells and Manor area committee - due to be held at 7.30pm this evening (Monday) - has been cancelled.
Police say there have been no major incidents so far, due to the adverse weather conditions, but they are advising people to think about whether their journey is essential before heading out.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: "If you do choose to travel, please be aware that road conditions are extremely difficult. Please take extra care and allow extra time for your journey.
"Also please ensure you are dressed warmly and take extra provisions with you just in case."
First Capital Connect has said trains into London from Stevenage are disrupted.
