The sixth annual Hitchin Food and Drink Festival served up all manner of tasty treats to eager visitors who sampled the delicious wares on offer in their thousands.

Committee chairman Alan Doggett said: “There was a real buzz on at the event. There were more than 20 stalls providing high quality food and two stalls sold out their stock entirely.

“We had also eight wine merchants at The Sun Hotel and more than 150 people attended their wine masterclasses. We got really good feedback and everyone enjoyed the day.

“Market Place provides a great setting. We are finding people want to come to Hitchin not only to visit the shops and attend events such as the festival – but they also come to sample the town’s growing reputation as a place to visit socially.

“I would estimate visitors who came specifically to our event numbered in the thousands over the day.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the 50 volunteers from the Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse which supported the event by helping out, chaperoning and tidying up afterwards.”
