A parish council which recieved funding to transform two disused tennis courts into a family-friendly sports zone held a field day attracting about 300 people.
Kings Walden Parish Council has secured £32,809 Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund to transform two tennis courts in Breachwood Green Recreation Ground, providing an all weather floodlit multi use games area (MUGA), outdoor gym equipment, table tennis, Street Snooker, one tennis court and a 60 metre two lane running track.
The field day at the recreation ground earlier this month was opened by North Herts district councillor Faye Barnard, and on the day there were sports events, a car boot sale, live music, barbecue, bar, cakes and tea. The day also raised £4000, including sponsorship from a number of local companies and individuals.
Chairman of the parish council, Angela Herrmann, said: “It’s all very exciting. We are now in a position to begin building after months of planning and fundraising.”
