A LORRY driver has died after a road traffic collision on the A1(M) this morning.

At 3.30am three articulated lorries were in collision on the northbound carriageway between junction 6 Welwyn and 7 Stevenage South.

One man from Lincolnshire was taken to Lister Hospital with serious injuries and later died. Two others were uninjured.

Police continue to work at the scene and the Highways Agency has confirmed the recovery of the vehicles is expected to be completed by 3pm. It is then expected to take a further two hours to make the road safe, before the carriageway is reopened.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area as alternative routes are congested.

Witnesses, or anyone with information about the accident, are asked to call Herts Police on 0845 33 00 222.
