BEDFORDSHIRE Highways is on standby to carry out gritting runs later today, following reports from the Met Office that further severe weather is likely to affect the county this evening (Thursday) and into tomorrow morning (Friday).

Bedfordshire Highways says it has been warned of heavy snow around rush hour tomorrow morning, which could cause major disruption to traffic in the county.

Snow ploughs have been out on the roads in full force today, following heavy snow falls overnight, and there are plans to grit all A and B roads at 3am tomorrow. Minor roads will continue to be cleared by snow ploughs throughout the rest of today.

Motorists are being advised to take extra care on the roads, and to only drive if they absolutely have to. People are also being encouraged to listen out for local radio and TV reports for the latest travel updates.
