The heat was on as a running club hosted an inaugural relay race at the weekend.
Hitchin Running Club held its first public event – the Hitchin Relay Race – on Sunday as competitors took on a 12km off-road course at its Hitchin Rugby Club base in teams, with a fun run also organised for youngsters.
Fairlands Valley Spartans ‘A’ saw off town rivals Stevenage Striders in the form of The Stags team to win the main race in 40 minutes and 12 seconds, with North Herts Road Runners ‘A’ finishing in third.
After working up a sweat as temperatures reached 20°C in the shade, runners were able to cool off at a converted fire truck which was selling milkshakes, ice creams and other treats.
There was also a children’s bouncy castle, face painting and displays from Hitchin Judo Club, while The Buryhill Clinic offered up express massages to ease aching limbs.
