A BUS company is increasing its fares blaming the higher cost of fuel.

Arriva has reviewed fares in the Stevenage area and will be introducing new fares this Sunday (September 17).

The revision will see many adult single fares currently below £2 increase by 10p while those fares of £2 and over will increase by 20p.

Adult return tickets and child singles and returns will increase pro rata.

There will be no increases on route 300/301 fares between the Roebuck Inn and Lister Hospital.

Brian Drury, commercial director for Arriva the Shires and Essex, said: "We have tried hard to keep fare increases to a minimum however we have reached the point where it is inevitable that we must pass on some of the additional costs to customers."

* Full details of all fare changes are available from Arriva's customer comment helpline on 08701 20 10 88.
