From Hitchin to Paris: Tom’s cycle mission for charity

A MAN from Hitchin will finish a four day long cycle ride today (Sunday), as part of a feat to raise money to send a Hitchin youth group abroad for a charity project.

Tom Kember, of Peppermint Road, Hitchin, is cycling the 320 mile journey from Hitchin to Paris with three others.

He hopes to raise funds to send 20 young people from the Urban Saints Hitchin youth group, based at Hitchin Christian Centre, to Tijuana, Mexico, to build houses for families without proper homes.

Tom set off on his journey at 7.30am on Thursday from the Hitchin Christian Centre on Bedford Road, and hopes to arrive in the centre of Paris today (Sunday). He is accompanied by three other cyclists plus a support vehicle carrying kit and luggage.

He will next lead the youth group on the charity venture during the Easter holidays, as part of a group of 140 from all over the UK.

The bike ride is just part of a number of other initiatives taking place to bring in the money, including quiz nights, fun runs, other sponsored events and a talent show at the centre tomorrow.
