A free May Day celebration is flying into Letchworth today.

Howard Park and Gardens will be filled with colour from 1pm until 4pm today as maypole dancing, storytelling, craft workshops and community art arrives on the scene.

The event – which will also feature crown-making and boat racing – is being organised by charity Groundwork Hertfordshire, in partnership with North Herts District Council and the Friends of Howard Park and Gardens.

Groundwork community project officer Kloe Wood said: “This event was inspired by the fantastic May Day celebrations that took place in the park in years gone by.

“I hope the people of Letchworth will really enjoy the event and possibly hold it annually once more. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone – don’t forget your dancing shoes!”
