Youngsters are being offered free golf coaching this weekend in memory of talented golfer Jack Mudd.
The Jack Mudd Practice Facility at Knebworth Golf Club was built after the 19-year-old’s life was cut short by a tragic car accident in October 2015.
Jack had a promising future ahead of him and had been selected for a prestigious scholarship to play and study in the USA before he died.
In May 2016, his family held a golfing tournament to raise funds to build the new facility for junior golfers, so that other youngsters can have the same chance to enjoy the game as much as Jack did.
Now Knebworth Golf Club are offering the facility’s first ever free sessions on Saturday 9, Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 September for children between the ages of around five to 16.
Golf coach Ian Parker told the Comet: “It’s an environment where they learn more than golf - it’s about friendship for life and a whole host of other things that comes with golf.
“It has a bit of a name as a ‘posh’ sport, but it really isn’t. When you create that community, it’s something you can do for life.”
The free sessions will offer aspects of the Knebworth Tiger Club level one learning programme, including technique, trick shots, warm ups, etiquette and safety.
Jack Mudd had been a member of Stevenage and Knebworth golf clubs, and was a third year student at The Golf College in West Sussex.
In a moving tribute soon after his passing in 2015, his parents Ann and Dave said: “Jack, you touched lives from all corners of the world through your love of golf and you were adored by all who knew you.”
Ian said: “It is our goal to build the facility under Jack’s name as it’s such a legacy. It’s such a great facility that children can come down and use.”
Further free and fee-paying sessions will be offered at the facility in future.
