SPORT has been given a financial boost with grants from Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation.

Last week the Foundation’s board gave out three grants totalling over 3,200.

The largest grant of 1,500 goes to North Herts Road Runners towards the costs of the 22nd Standalone 10k run which is being held on Sunday, October 3.

The Foundation has always been a strong supporter of the race, which starts at Standalone in Wilbury Way.

The Baldock and District Canoe Club have been given 1,000 to help them purchase a Canadian single-seat boat suitable for competition purposes.

One club member has been selected to represent Scotland in the Pan Celtic Club competition where the new boat will be used.

The club has received sporting success grants in the past from the Foundation towards the cost of new kayaks and a double Canadian boat.

The final grant of 720 has gone to Gary Williams, the training and development manager at Letchworth Garden City Eagles and the club’s development manager Josh Bickerstaff, who coaches the club’s youngest players, to cover the cost of attending comprehensive coaching courses.
