Formula 1 racing driving Lewis Hamilton earns £5,700 an hour and his salary last season could have bought more than 160 average-priced properties in his hometown of Stevenage.

That’s according to research conducted by transport company AnyVan ahead of the start of the F1 season, and is based on an average Stevenage home value of £311,985 from Zoopla.

Hamilton grew up in Stevenage, living in Peartree Way and Woodfield Road and attending Peartree Spring Primary School and The John Henry Newman Catholic School.

The five-time Formula 1 World Champion earned a reported £50 million last season - that’s £137,000 a day, £5,700 an hour or £95 a minute.

A Formula 1 weekend normally lasts three days, so Hamilton bags more than £410,000 for his three days’ work.

The F1 season kicks off on March 17 in Melbourne, Australia.
