Keith Keane is returning to Stevenage for a second spell after agreeing a one-month loan deal from fellow League Two side Cambridge United.

The 29-year-old made seven League Two appearances for Boro during a three-month loan at the back end of last season, helping the Lamex Stadium side reach the play-off semi-finals before losing to Southend United.

He joined the U’s from Championship outfit Preston North End on a two-year deal last summer but has only featured five times this campaign, all of which came in August.

Keane will bolster Teddy Sheringham’s ailing squad having seen the likes of Steven Schumacher, Ben Kennedy, Dave McAllister, Jerome Okimo, Dean Wells, Dean Parrett and Chris Whelpdale all condemned to the treatment table in recent weeks.

The former Luton Town man, who made over 250 appearances for the Hatters, will go straight into Saturday’s squad for the long trip down to league leaders Plymouth Argyle.
