A new Turkish restaurant is to open in the former premises of a town centre furniture store.

The ground floor of the former Philpotts Furniture Store – which closed last year in Sun Street, Hitchin, after nearly 80 years in business – will be home to the restaurant and will open next year.

The upper floor will be turned into a nursery-cum-therapy and beauty centre for mums with kids.

Hitchin town centre manager Keith Hoskins said: “It’s brand new and they are working it on it now. I’m told it’s their first entry into this country and it’s great to see the empty unit being invested in.

“It refocuses Hitchin as the place to eat in the area. And you can truly say that you can eat your way around the world with this latest addition to Hitchin. It will be an interesting addition.”
