A former EastEnders actor and the host of a hit Channel 4 show are set to appear at a charity comedy night in Potton to help a couple from the town.

Ricky Grover – who played Andrew Cotton in the BBC soap –and Balls of Steel host Mark Dolan are performing for House of Stand Up at the Potton and District Club in Station Road on September 14, to raise money for a family to have IVF treatment.

Lauren and Ben Green want to have children but are struggling to fund the IVF they need. All proceeds from the event will go towards the treatment.

House of Stand Up promoter Trevor Jones is delighted to help them out.

He said: “We organise a number of fundraising events throughout the year for local and regional charities across London and the Home Counties.

“We’re especially proud to be supporting this very deserving local cause for Lauren and Ben to raise the much-needed funds that will enable them to become a family.”

Ricky has appeared in popular TV shows including cult sci-fi classic Red Dwarf, ITV comedy Plebs and the 2016 sequel to 1970s sitcom Porridge.

He has also starred on the silver screen, playing the lead role in 2010 movie Big Fat Gypsy Gangster and appearing in Guy Ritchie’s 2005 film Revolver.

Music and football fans may also recognise him from the video of 1998 hit Vindaloo, by Fat Les.

Mark has become a staple of Channel 4 programming over the years, fronting three series of The World’s...and Me, where he meets incredible people from around the globe.

He also appears as the host of comedy panel programme Mad Bad Ad Show with Micky Flanagan.

From 2005 to 2008 he hosted Balls of Steel, in which guests competed to perform stunts and hold their nerve during hidden-camera set-pieces involving celebrities or members of the public.

In 2015 he also co-hosted If Katie Hopkins Ruled the World, alongside the controversial columnist and media personality.

There will also be supporting performances from Karen Bayley – winner of the prestigious Comedy Store King Gong – as well as Fraser Gibson and Richard Spalding.

The show starts at 8pm on Friday, September 14, with doors opening at 7pm.
