LAND previously earmarked for a healthcare facility is to become housing.
A site where the former Dixons warehouse was based in Wedgwood Way, Stevenage, will be turned into 55 houses and flats after borough councillors gave the proposals the go ahead on Wednesday night.
The land, owned by property developer Bellway Homes, was cleared around four years as part of a residential development but could have been used as a healthcare facility if an option was taken up by the East and North Herts Primary Care Trust (PCT).
Now the site will be used for 23 houses and 32 flats, in four-storey blocks, after the PCT confirmed it did not wish to proceed with the development.
Plans include parking for 87 cars and 43 bikes to serve the development, which will be accessed from a roundabout on Martins Way.
