A ROW has broken out between two MPs about hospitals in the county.

Barbara Follett, MP for Stevenage, was due to speak in the House of Commons on Monday but was unable to due to time constraints.

However Welwyn Hatfield MP Grant Shapps was able to address the House raising his concerns about the "financial crisis" in hospitals in Hertfordshire.

Mrs Follett told The Comet: "I think that Mr Shapps' overly dramatic and doom-laden approach obscures the facts. The hospital service in East and North Herts is in deficit, not crisis.

"Measures are being taken to reduce this deficit. I understand Mr Shapps' immediate concerns about the transfer of services from Welwyn to the Lister, and I admire his stand on behalf of his constituents.

"But we have to look beyond the short term here to the very real benefits that reconfiguration of the services in East and North Herts will bring to its residents.
