FitFest took place in the town’s Market Place on Saturday and saw many people take part in their popular public exercise sessions.

There was also demonstrations, music and stalls.

The Pilates Pod-inspired event was created four years ago by couple Ed and Michelle Smith who have been inundated with accolades since opening their Hitchin business in May 2011.

Michelle said: “This is the event we created a few years ago to celebrate fitness and health in Hitchin and now it’s amazing to see so many businesses benefit and share the fitness love.

“Pilates is strong, helps flexibility and we are a no nonsense, results driven, non-wishy washy studio!”

The event has been backed by many Hitchin groups and businesses including Hitchin BID, Xchange Fitness, Kinetic Cycles, Sun and Moon Juice, Hitchin Rugby Club and many more.

Among those in attendance were Hitchin Lacrosse members, and president Hazel Wisbey said: “It was a really great atmosphere and we met with lots of people who joined in with our team on the day. We’re also going for talks with a potential sponsor so that’s fantastic news for the club.”

Town centre manager Keith Hoskins added: “The seed for FitFest was first planted four years ago by Michelle at the Pilates Pod and since then it has been helped and nurtured by Hitchin BID so that it is now a successful addition to the summer events programme. Hitchin BID enables a number of ideas to come to fruition and our next event will be Hermitage Road Day on August 19 from an original idea of Felix at Farley’s Hair Salon.”
