Fireworks night is set to go off with a bang with displays across Comet country from tonight (Saturday).

With Guy Fawkes Night falling on Tuesday this year, a number of towns and villages have opted to hold their annual event this weekend.

Kicking off proceedings on tonight will be Pirton, Arlesey and Shefford.

Pirton Recreation Ground hosts a fireworks and bonfire night from 6pm, with live music throughout proceedings.

The bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm, with fireworks following at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £5 for adults and £3 for children, with preschool infants going free.

Car parking is for disabled badge holders only, but parking is available in the village itself. No personal fireworks or sparklers are allowed.

In Arlesey, the 1st Arlesey Scout Group hold its annual display at The White Horse pub in High Street.

Doors open for the free event at 6pm, with the bonfire lit at 6.30pm and fireworks from 7.15pm.

The White Hart Hotel in Northbridge Road is the venue for Shefford’s display, with doors opening at 7pm before fireworks at 8pm.

Tickets cost £4 for adults and £3 for under 16s, with under fives going free.

On Sunday, it’s the turn of the Letchworth Garden City and Baldock Lions Club at the Hertfordshire FA County Ground in Baldock Road, Letchworth GC.

Doors open at 5.30pm for a 7pm start, with entry £4 for adults and £3 for under 16s.

Money raised from the event will go to Garden House Hospice and Keech Hospice Care.

Henlow hosts its display on the same night, which starts at Millenium Meadows off Gardeners Lane from 5.30pm, with the bonfire lit at 6.30pm.

Parking on site is for disabled badge holders only.

Three displays are being held on November 5 itself.

Stevenage’s free annual event at Fairlands Valley Park begins at 7.30pm, with organisers asking the general public not to bring their own fireworks or sparklers.

Free parking is available in the Fairlands Valley Showground opposite Stevenage FC’s ground in Broadhall Way.

Stotfold Football Club’s event at Roker Park on The Green starts at 7pm with fireworks from 7.30pm.

Admission is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children. A family ticket for up to three children is £12.

Parking is available on The Green. No sparklers are allowed.

Blueharts Hockey Club is hosting a bonfire and fireworks night at its club house in Lucas Lane, Hitchin.

Gates open at 6.45pm with the fireworks set off to music from 8pm.

Entry is £7 for adults and £5 for children under 14, with a family ticket for two adults and two children costing £20.

Hitchin hosts a second display on Saturday, November 7, at Strathmore Infant and Nursery School.

The evening in Old Hale Way runs from 5.30pm to 7.30pm with a bonfire, fireworks and a disco.

Advanced tickets can be bought from the school for £5 for adults and £2.50 for children, or on the door for £8 and £4 respectively.

No dogs or sparkers are allowed.
