Firefighters tackled a shed blaze in Letchworth this morning.

Crews from Baldock & Letchworth and Hitchin fire stations rushed to the scene after being called at 8.40am to Glebe Road, where a 16-square-metre shed was well alight.

The watch commander told the Comet: “Originally we had two in breathing apparatus and a jet, then we had to withdraw when we found out there were gas cylinders involved.

“We set up three monitors and took a defensive mode until the fire had died down.”

The fire was out by 11.45am. No injuries were reported, and a fire service spokeswoman said the fire was accidental.
