Firefighters remain on the scene after a blaze in an outbuilding near Holwell this morning caused large amounts of smoke.
Crews were called at 6.15am this morning after reports of a fire in a wooded outbuilding off the A600 Bedford Road next to Hillcrest Nursery – north of Hitchin and before the turning for Holwell.
Five engines – from Stevenage, Hitchin, Letchworth & Baldock, and Welwyn Garden City – tackled the blaze, which caused lots of smoke but has now been declared out.
Two crews remain at the scene for damping down, and it is not yet clear what caused the fire.
