Fire crews tackle Hitchin scrapyard blaze

FIRE crews were called to a Hitchin scrapyard last night (Tuesday) after four tonnes of waste caught alight there.
Four fire crews from Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock and Stevenage were called to the H Williams and Sons scrapyard on Wallace Way just after 6.30pm.
They took 80 minutes to put out the blaze and a further 20 minutes damping it down. A number of gas cylinders were also made safe.
The cause of the fire was reported as accidental.
