Match action

3mins – Phil Edwards wins a header 25 yards from goal and Byron Harrison allows the ball to drop over his shoulder and take a bounce before he volleys it over from 16 yards and from an angle.

6mins – Scott Malone takes a free kick from almost 30 yards, and after he hits it straight into the wall Marc Pugh hits the rebound, on the volley, too high and it flies over Chris Day’s bar.

7mins – A good passing move down the right saw Long tee up Harrison who turned his man before passing back to Long whose cross was headed wide by Phil Edwards, 12 yards out.

10mins – Boro are playing some good football early doors, but when Edwards gets his foot behind the ball from 20 yards his body is facing away from goal and his flicked effort with his right peg does not trouble Daryl Flahavan.

22mins - Laird is getting involved in a few niggly challenges - both as a victim and perpetrator.

23mins - Long tries an audacious overhead kick attempt from the edge of the Bournemouth box, but it’s far too high.

25mins – Stephen Gregory jumps well but heads over from a corner.

30mins – Craig Reid sees a shot blocked from just inside the area after some good work down the left from Harrison had seen the striker set up Long whose effort had also been blocked.

33mins – Laird’s free kick towards the box and as Reid and Harrison both leap for the ball, the latter gets a touch but he can’t direct it at goal.

37mins – Boro are caught out when Scott Malone hits a superb curled pass over the Stevenage back line. Lyle Taylor gets into the space behind Mark Roberts and allowing the ball to bounce, 16 yards out, he fires at goal only for Day to get his hands behind it, taking the sting out of the blast and gathering easily. Best chance of the match so far.

41mins – For five minutes Bournemouth have been piling on the pressure and Day, with a strong punch, clears his line again. His dominance of the Stevenage box is something the side has been missing in his absence.

43mins – Yet Boro soak up the pressure, and then go ahead! Lawrie Wilson makes his way across the edge of the 18-yard box, beating two players, before slipping the ball for Craig Reid who fires into the bottom left corner from 16 yards past an outstretched Flahavan. The home side believe he was offside - and Pugh sees yellow for his complains - but Boro lead 1-0.

Second half

47mins – A howler by Ashton, and the home side equalise. He tries to pass back to Lawrie Wilson, but gifts the ball to Scott Malone instead, 40 yards from goal. The left-back bombs on, takes on Wilson and then passes into the box where, a Bournemouth step-over later, substitute Harry Arter is waiting to side-foot home from eight yards. 1-1

55mins – Arter, after putting his side ahead, then almost hands Boro an equaliser. He passes back towards his own goal but Byron Harrison, under pressure, is quickly on to it but his low effort from 14 yards is held well by Flahavan.

59mins – Charles moves up front as Robin Shroot comes on for Reid, right mid. Phil Edwards drops back to right back, Long moves centre-mid and Laird left-back.

60mins - Doble breaks into the Boro box and fires across goal. Ashton, making up for his earlier mistake, clears off the line as the hosts pile the pressure on. A minute later, and Roberts has to slide a cross clear as bodies wait on the six-yard line behind him.

64mins – Boro go ahead again! Flahavan saves a ball into the box from the left, but he collides with a defender and Harrison in the middle of his aread. Stacy Long runs on to the rebound but as he shoots at goal Adam Barratt stops the ball, on the line, using his arm. Red for Barratt, and Boro get a penalty which Mousinho, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way, slots home.

67mins – Long wins the ball in midfield and with Harrison in support, heads for the Bournemouth box. He passes to Harrison, via a deflection, but the striker is too slow to react and Flahavan is quickly out of his area to save at the striker’s feet.

71mins – Day has to fly to his left to save another Bournemouth strike, this time from Arter.

78mins – Baudry goes down in the box at a free kick and is furious that he is not awarded a penalty for a shove.

82mins – Liam Feeney holds off the challenge of Lawrie Wilson to make room for himself on the edge of the box, but his low drive is wide of Day’s post.

84mins – Myrie-Williams has come on and he is causing right-back Nathan Byrne all sorts of problems. None of them lead to a goal, but his threat is keeping at least one full-back deep in his own half.

85mins – And Beardsley heads a cross which found him under the cross bar over the top of it!

88mins – A Feeney free kick is cleared to the edge of the box and when Bournemouth pump it back in Shaun Cooper is there. He flicks his head at it, and gets power behind it, but Day looks comfortable as it bounces by his post and out.

90mins - And Westley isn’t happy - five minutes of extra time - but when Beardsley taps home from six yards after Myrie-Williams crosses across the face of goal, Westley can relax. 3-1 to Boro.
