Fearnhill School in Letchworth has taken a new feathery family under its wing, as a mother and ducklings have moved onto site.
The family of mother and eight ducklings have made their home in one of the school’s small courtyard gardens – overlooked by the library, pastoral office and a corridor,and staff and students are keeping an eye on them.
Headteacher Liz Ellis said: “Students and staff are enjoying watching them develop. They are getting lots of attention and are growing very well.
“Clearly they love living with us and feel they belong, which is what we are aiming for with every member of our school community.”
The duckings are now almost a month old, and the school expects them to stay until they learn to fly.
A member of the pastoral team created a small ‘pond’ which the ducklings started using for the first time last week to learn to swim and dive.
