THE family of a man who died after he was in collision with a car when out walking have paid tribute to “a kind, friendly and happy man”.

Terry Fisher, 69, of Clifton Park, New Road in Clifton, had been walking with his family on the A600 Bedford Road in Lower Stondon on Sunday, March 11, when there was a collision between the group and a blue Vauxhall Corsa just before 4pm.

Mr Fisher was pronounced dead at the scene - 180m south of the Boundary Close junction.

Mr Fisher’s son, Ian, 36, was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge. He has had several operations and is now in a stable condition, but requires more surgery and has many months of recovery ahead.

Mr Fisher’s wife and eight-year-old grandson received minor injuries.

In a statement from Mr Fisher’s family, it says: “Terry was a much loved husband, dad and grandad, and will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

“Terry was still working, as he had done most of his working life, as a self-employed painter and decorator.”

He and his wife had recently moved to Clifton Park so he could retire in the next few years.

The tribute continues: “Terry will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, friendly and happy man who enjoyed an active life.

“He was a lifelong biker and celebrated becoming a grandad by buying a R1 Phaser bike and spent as much time as he could with his grandchildren and family.

“The family would like to thank the emergency services on the scene, the kind people who helped at the scene of this horrific accident and all the staff at Addenbrooke’s Hospital for the care they have given to Ian and the rest of the family.

“We would especially like to express our thanks to the air ambulance team, who saved Ian’s life, and our family liaison officer, who has been a tremendous support during this difficult time.”

Mr Fisher’s funeral will be held at The Vale Crematorium in Stopsley on March 30 at 10.30am. The family would like all who knew him to attend to celebrate his life.

At his express wishes, no black ties or flowers. Donations can be made to George Squires & Sons, Shefford, to go to a charity of the family’s choice.

* The driver of the Corsa, a 21-year-old man, was unhurt and arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been bailed until June.
