A GRIEVING family has been left "saddened and disappointed" by a review into the investigation into the death of a young motorcyclist.

Luke Chapman, of Avocet, Letchworth GC, died in March last year aged just 16 after his bike collided with the back of an unlit lorry parked in Icknield Way in the town.

After the inquest into his death in February, his family criticised Hertfordshire Police for not prosecuting the driver who parked the lorry without illuminating it.

The police then pledged to hold a review into the investigation into Luke's death.

Last week the family received a report in response to their queries.

In it the police admit that by law the lorry should have been illuminated but state that the senior investigating officer "did not consider that it was appropriate to prosecute for an offence which would not normally be subject of police enforcement".

The family say the report has left many of their questions unanswered and have written to the police again.

Mrs Chapman said: "I feel really angry about why they can't come back with an apology, why they can't admit they were wrong."

The family's solicitor, Sefton Kwasnik, said: "The family are saddened and disappointed by the response which still leaves a lot of questions and concerns unanswered. They are determined to try to get a satisfactory and complete responses."

A spokesman for Hertfordshire Police said: "We have received correspondence from the Chapmans' solicitor. We will continue to discuss and try to resolve any concerns that they have.
