A FAMILY who have been subjected to four terrifying attacks on their caravan home are now offering a reward for information that might lead to police arresting those responsible.

The family, who have not been named by police, live on the Old Cartwheel Nursery site alongside the A1 in Sandy.

During September their home was targeted three times, first with a brick, then by a petrol bomb and then a shotgun blast broke a window and damaged a door.

A fourth attack happened on Sunday, November 19, when a burning car, which had been stolen in Hitchmead Road, Biggleswade, was pushed down the driveway towards the caravan.

The H-registration red Ford Escort had been stolen the previous day and had been spotted being driven along the A1 while still alight, just before being pushed down the driveway.

Now the family have put up a £1,000 reward for anyone who can give information to the police leading to an arrest and conviction for the offences.

Dc Phil Raikes, who is leading the investigation, said: "The extended family has lived peacefully at the Old Nursery for 18 years.

"There were children in the caravan at the time of the last incident and, understandably, they are now very distressed.

"There is no obvious motive for these attacks. No-one living on the site or in the surrounding area can think of a reason why they should suddenly be targeted."

Another detective said: "We must find those responsible for these attacks before someone is seriously injured or killed."

The hunt is also on for anyone who saw the stolen car being driven around either Biggleswade or Sandy.

Dc Raikes added: "This car was missing for about 40 hours before it ended up being pushed down the driveway towards the caravans.

"It must have been stored somewhere before it was set on fire and someone must know where and who had it.

"Someone picked up the offender, or offenders, after they had set the car on fire. We want to know who they were."

Detectives are also looking for two violins and a Yamaha keyboard that were stolen from the car.

Anyone with information can contact Dc Raikes at Bedford CID on 01234 275332 or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
