The Fairtrade mark is an independent consumer label which appears on products as a guarantee that producers in the developing world are getting a better deal.
* All producers are inspected and certified. They receive a minimum price that covers the cost of sustainable production and an extra premium that is invested in social or economic development projects.
* There are currently around 1,300 Fairtrade products on the market, and £8billion is spent on these products each year.
