A FLEDGLING youth group has been awarded a lottery grant.

Fairfield Youth Club in Fairfield Park has been awarded a grant of £9,198 by the Lottery Commission.

The club intends to use the funding to equip a weekly youth club for 12 to 17-year-olds on the development of 1200 properties, which at present has no youth provision.

It is hoped that this will strengthen the community by integrating the young people into the new community and develop friendships and positive activities.

John Tyler, chairman of the youth club, said: “I am cockerhoot with the news. This means we will be able to run the club on a professional basis because with all the legal safeguards in place today we need to make sure it is run properly.”
