Pete Hayman, from the Stevenage FC online resource, says the task Boro face this weekend could be tougher than the one Spurs presented in 2012

Not for the first time this season, the footballing gods have decided Stevenage are to play Everton.

It’s been a long few months since the club took the Toffees to extra-time in the League Cup, and the two clubs’ league fortunes have been in stark contrast to one another.

Everton’s run in the league is impressive - one defeat in 10 outings and just two all season - while Boro are the opposite in some ways, with two wins in 10.

If Everton underestimated Stevenage earlier this season, they’re unlikely to do so again.

There will probably be plenty of changes to the teams that took to the pitch at Goodison Park. Stevenage will be without Ben Chorley [suspension] for the tie, so it’s likely to be Jon Ashton and Luke Jones who are tasked with keeping Romelu Lukaku quiet.

At the other end, Francois Zoko will want to keep Everton’s centre-halves busy and whoever plays left and right midfield may well find their work cut out in helping Boro’s full-backs combat the likely threat of Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines.

Of course, that all depends on the strength of the Everton team but Roberto Martinez will no doubt want to win the tie on the night as Everton push their Champions League credentials.

For Boro, it will be a much tougher test than Newcastle United three years ago and maybe more than Tottenham two years ago too.

Can they put aside their league form and do something special? Stranger things have happened...
