A FORMER Stevenage FC footballer has been jailed for four-and-a-half years today (Friday) after being convicted of rape.

Tesfaye Bramble, who played for Boro 11 times between 2007 and 2008, raped a 19-year-old woman at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle after a night out in September last year.

The 31-year-old, whose brother Titus Bramble plays for Premier League Sunderland, was found guilty of rape by a jury at the end of a week-long trial at Leeds Crown Court in June.

Bramble, who also played for Southend United and Stockport County before his career was ended by injury, received his sentence today after judge Geoffrey Marson had adjourned the case to allow a pre-sentence report to be prepared.
