A FORMER Stevenage FC footballer who shot dead a man in London has been jailed for life.

Gavin Grant, 26, loaned to Boro in February 2008 from Grays Athletic, will serve at least 25 years in prison after receieving his sentence yesterday (Monday).

The former Millwall, Wycombe Wanderers and Bradford City striker was found guilty on Friday of murdering Leon Labastide, 21, in north-west London in 2004.

Grant, who had denied murder, played for the Broadhall Way outfit a total of 14 times during his loan spell and scored seven times.

Gareth Downie, 25, and Damian Williams, 32, were also jailed for life and given 25-year minimum terms over the killing.
