JUSTICE is in sight for hundreds of former steelworkers who suffered pensions losses when their employers went bankrupt in 2002.

Following legal action by unions, former employees of Allied Steel and Wire in Kent and Cardiff have won European Commission backing.

Unions Amicus and Community said the move would boost the chances of the workers finally receiving some money.

Some 1,000 former members of staff should benefit from the development.

A spokesman for the unions said they had always believed they had a strong case.
