EMERGENCY services are trying to rescue a bird stuck up a tree in Stevenage.

The fire service and the county's water rescue team were called to Fairlands Valley Park at 3.20pm to reports of a bird in distress after it had become tangled in branches.

A fire crew have laid out an 'inflatable path' to an island in one of the lakes and have erected a 9 metre ladder to try to reach the bird which is trapped overhanging the water.
