Almost 100 homes, including those of the elderly have been without power today (Monday) in freezing conditions.

Around 40 homes in Knebworth were plunged into darkness last night after a fault hit the Cherry Close and Wadnall Way area. Despite the efforts of engineers, 12 houses were still without power at lunchtime. To fix the problem electricians cut power to 82 more houses.

A UK Power Network spokesman said the company called on British Red Cross volunteers to help vulnerable customers affected.

“We do appreciate how difficult it is to be without power at this time of year, and would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused,” she added.

Power has now been restored.
