THERE was an almost perfect achievement in GCSE A*-C grades at St Francis College, Letchworth GC.
Of the 621 grades notched up by the 62 girls who sat exams, just one was a D while all the others were above.
That allowed headmistress Mairin Hegarty in her last year at St Francis to note in the school records a 99.9 per cent A*-C pass rate.
Sixteen students got straight As. The overall pass rate at A* and A was 68 per cent, up two per cent on last year.
"It was a very good year, the girls have done me proud, I am very pleased with all of them," said Miss Hegarty who will retire at the end of the spring term after 16 years as head and a total of 22 years at St Francis.
