Pupils will be safer after a company donated over 100 hi-viz vests to a village school.

When John McGoldrick of Aston t-shirt printers Noughtee.com saw children walking to St Mary’s School along the lanes of the village, he decided he wanted to make them more visible to drivers.

He said: “Aston is approached by narrow lanes, which means some children who walk to school are walking in the lane itself - and on dark mornings this often means poor visibility of children to drivers.”

His donation of 118 vests to every pupil in the school will be worn on journeys to and from St Mary’s, headteacher Margaret Gibbs said.

“We are very thankful to Mr McGoldrick for this kind donation and for his concern regarding the children’s safety,” she said. “These waistcoats will be used when the school takes advantage of the beautiful surroundings when out on local walks and trips. Donations such as these make a huge financial difference to us, as we are a small village school with very limited budgets.”
