Young readers at Stevenage’s Peartree Way Nursery worked their way through more than 100 books in a sponsored readathon which raised a hefty sum to help others less fortunate than themselves.

The £421 they collected in support of Readathon, which promotes reading for pleasure as well as supporting charities which help sick children, also earned them money to spend on books for their own library.

The nursery’s book project practitioner Chelsay Baker said: “After this year’s success I would recommend running a Readathon to every school.

“We hope the Readathon will encourage parents to continue to read with their children at home.”
