GLOBAL sporting stars were in North Herts on Tuesday kicking off healthy initiatives.

Pixmore Junior School in Letchworth GC welcomed England cricketer James Anderson and former England Ladies football captain Faye White on Tuesday as they took part in a TV commercial.

Pupils featured alongside the two athletes for an advert by the Cooperative which promotes sports in schools as part of the Active Sport Foundation. The commercial is due to be aired on ITV1 in July.

Olympic gold medallist Duncan Goodhew MBE visited Whitehill Junior School in Hitchin on the same day.

The swimmer visited the school as part of a nationwide pledge by coaching company Premier Sport to pledge �150,000 worth of physical activity and sporting opportunities to 1,000 primary schools in the country and engage 200,000 children of all abilities at primary school.

Simon Burns MP, minister of state for health, said: “I applaud this pledge, which will mean over 200,000 children in primary schools being given increased opportunities to be more active and to learn important life skills through sport.”
