More than 60 children and their families joined Buster the Steposaurus for the inaugural park and stride in Offley, near Hitchin.

The walk together for the last part of the journey to school took the children from the Green Man pub to Offley Endowed Primary School, just up School Lane.

Teacher Julie Ottolangui told the Comet: “The school were very impressed with how many pupils and parents took part in the activity.

“The initiative recognises that not all families have the time to walk the whole way to school – it enables cars to be parked safely in a designated space away from the school, and then families enjoy a short and healthy walk to school without it taking it too much time, but still gaining some of the many benefits of walking.”

Buster is the walking mascot for Hertfordshire County Council’s active and safer travel team, which has worked closely with schools across the county on initiatives such as these.
