PRIMARY school children have kicked off the festive season by making Christmas puddings.

Weston Way Nursery School pupils have been making the traditional pudding for more than 30 years.

This year the event was held on Friday and the pupils had more than 60 extra pair of hands belonging to mums, dads, grandparents and volunteers to help with the mammoth task of producing almost 100 Christmas puddings.

A spokesman for the Baldock nursery said: “A great deal of fun was had by all who participated. The children worked in small groups supervised by members of staff and willing volunteers.

“Christmas CDs were playing in the background while the wonderful smell of orange zest and mixed spice filled the air. Every child went home after the session with a Christmas pudding ready to be carefully cooked.”
