A group of teenagers have trounced the competition in a Dragons’ Apprentice Challenge and won four awards.
The challenge, organised by the North Herts Centre for Voluntary Service, involves teams of Year 12 pupils in Stevenage and North Herts being given a business mentor and tasked with turning £100 into £1,000 for charity within six months.
A ceremony at Stevenage’s Cromwell Hotel last week saw a team from the North Herts Education Support Centre – a pupil referral unit that works with permanently excluded students and those at serious risk of permanent exclusion – win Best Poster, Best Innovative Business Ideas, Most Money Raised and Overall Winners.
The team raised £1,700 for Carers in Herts by having several market stalls and holding an afternoon tea.
Their teacher, Kate Robinson, said: “They were the underdogs, competing against A-level business studies students, and they absolutely smashed it.”
