LEARNERS at North Hertfordshire College were celebrating when they received their A-level results.

There were 100 per cent pass rates in a wide range of subjects.

Overall the college achieved a 96 per cent pass rate.

Ben Roullier from Stevenage achieved As in mathematics, physics, chemistry and further mathematics and has a place to study chemical engineering at Churchill College, Cambridge.

He said: "I really liked the friendly college environment. I am so pleased with my results and hope to work in pharmaceuticals when I have finished my degree."

Lewis Arthur from Stevenage was delighted to achieve an A in English literature, an A in law and a B in biology. He will now take up his place to study law at King's College, London with the aim of becoming a barrister or solicitor.

He said: "I didn't do very well at school which is why I am so pleased with my results today."

Tony Marriot achieved an A and two Bs along with a grade A for the new Extended Project Qualification, for which NHC was a pilot centre. He will be going to Hull University to study politics, philosophy and economics.

Sheryl Hartigan from Stevenage was very pleased to have achieved B, C and D in English literature, history and law respectively and is looking forward to studying for a joint honours degree in law and journalism at the University of Hertfordshire.

AS-level results at NHC were also good this year in a wide range of subjects. Laura Allen from Stevenage achieved two Cs and a D and is looking forward to completing her A-levels next year after which she hopes to go on to Swansea University to study mass media communication.

Georgina Adair was another learner with reason to celebrate. She was among the top ten learners according to Edexcel, the UK's largest awarding body. Georgina, who studied travel and tourism at the college, achieved one of the highest marks out of 596 learners across the country.

College principal Fintan Donohue congratulated the students saying: "These learners have shown that if you work hard you can achieve at the highest level and to your full potential. I am very proud of their achievements. All our A-level learners are warmly congratulated. Their results show what a good move coming to college can be for those wishing to study A-levels. We wish them all the best in their future studies and careers.
