A HEADTEACHER of an independent school has been elected as chairman of The Society of Heads.

Richard Palmer, headteacher of St Christopher School in Letchworth GC, will hold the post for a year.

The Society of Heads is the representative body of more than 100 independent school heads and Mr Palmer will be representing them on the national and international stage.

Mr Palmer said: “I am delighted and honoured to have been elected chairman of such a prestigious organisation. It reflects how highly St Christopher School is regarded and I am greatly looking forward to my year in office representing the school, and indeed all independent schools. I am grateful to my excellent staff, in particular the senior management team and supportive governors, for enabling me to take on this role in addition to my headship of such an excellent school.”

Mr Palmer and his wife, Jenny, who works as part of the pastoral team at St Christopher, were invited by Her Majesty The Queen to a royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in June in recognition of their service to education.
