Purwell Primary School in Hitchin has marked its 60th anniversary, and has a set of events planned throughout the diamond year.

The school, off Fairfield Way, marked 60 years since opening its doors to pupils on Wednesday last week with a photo, and followed this with an improvised indoor picnic on Friday – forced undercover due to the weather.

The next anniversary event lined up is a school reunion on Saturday, June 16 – with former pupils, classes of 1958 to 2011, and staff members able to discuss old times.

Head Richard Cano said: “I am delighted to have been headteacher of the school for both the 50th and the 60th anniversaries of the school, and I am looking forward to all of our celebrations.

“I am immensely proud of the work we do here, and would be pleased to see as many former pupils and member of staff as possible at the reunion.”
