Hitchin’s first ever after-school club has celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Strathmore Fun Club started at Strathmore Infant and Nursery School in January 1998 – and founder Amanda Wright said it was initially frowned upon by some teachers, who were unsure what the club’s purpose was.
But things have changed hugely over the years, with more than 800 enjoying the club’s activities over the years. It has led the way in Hitchin, where there are now similar clubs in all areas.
Strathmore Fun Club marked its 20th anniversary with a week of fun including tie-dye designing, outdoor fun, a safari and reptile workshop and more.
Amanda told the Comet: “The children enjoyed all the different activities in celebration of our 20th anniversary. It feels like an unbelievable achievement of providing the childcare service to the community of Hitchin, and a great many children have enjoyed lots of fun and adventures over the years in a safe environment where they are well cared for.”
