Results were down on last year at Hitchin Boys' School where 61 per cent of students achieved five A*-C results compared to 72 per cent last year.
Head teacher Keith Wadsworth said: "The results are not as good this year as we have been used to but pretty much in line with what we expected.
Fifteen boys got eight of more A* or A pass grades, so there are some really outstanding results.
"I don't normally mention individuals, but twins Jamie and Dominic Stockbridge got 27 A* or A grades between them, while their brother Patrick achieved four A grades at A-level this year.
