THERE were tears of happiness at The Highfield School in Letchworth GC as they celebrated an improvement on last year's A-level results.

Chris Lewis, assistant headteacher at the school, said: "We are absolutely delighted with the performance of students. It was even better than last year - 66 per cent of students got A to C grades.

"This year's success is down to the hard work of students and staff and virtually all students have secured their first choice of higher education establishment."

Nine students achieved three or more A-levels at grade A, including Chris Moore who got As in chemistry, further maths, maths and physics as well as a distinction on his physics extension paper, Katie Alcock who got As in drama, English, history and psychology, and Katheirne Crone who got As in business studies, graphics and psychology.
