THERE were lots of happy faces at The Highfield School in Letchworth GC as students opened their GCSE results.

Overall, 63 per cent of pupils achieved five grade A* to C, and 26 per cent of grades were A*s or As.

Altogether, 56 per cent of students achieved grade A* to C including maths and English.

Receiving particularly good grades was Sam Hawkins, with nine A*s and five As, and high achievers Eleanor Barnes, Emma Halnan and Katie Lambert all secured seven A*s and four As. Nikki Alcock secured five A*s, eight As and one C.

Alex Edwards and Tom Nunn each managed to add 10 grades to their predicted grades.

Deputy headteacher Mark Creasy said: "In terms of us as a school we are really pleased because we are actually improved on last year. It's incredibly pleasing and there are an awful lot of happy faces.
