HEATHCOTE School in Stevenage is celebrating its best ever results.

Fifty-two per cent of students achieved five or more A*-C grades - a six per cent increase on last year, 45 per cent of students achieved five or more A*-Cs including English and maths - an eight per cent improvement on last year - 88 per cent of students achieved five or more A*- G grades and 98 per cent of students got at least one A to G pass.

Students who did particularly well included Alexander Brookes who achieved four A*s, four As, and a B, David Fillary who achieved two A*s, five As and a B; and Louise O'Connell who was awarded three A*s, six As and a B.

Louise said: "I can't put it into words. I just can't believe it. I want to say thank you to all my teachers. I couldn't have done it without them."

Headteacher Edward Gaynor said: "We are very pleased that our results have improved significantly this year. Despite the announcement last year of the school's closure in 2012 as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme, the staff and students have continued to work hard to achieve the school's best ever results. I am proud of what the school has achieved. We congratulate all our students on their results and thank their families for their support.
